There are certain smells that just remind me of things. Like the smell of freshly mown grass totally just smells like Summer, add in some sunscreen and petrol and suddenly you are on the way to the beach. Picking up Knox and getting that delicious newborn smell or sometimes a totally different kind of smell that I don’t want to talk about, reminds me that I am a parent. Now it’s heading into Winter and there is something about the smell of cinnamon and peanutbutter that makes me want to whip out the heater and a fuzzy warm blanket.
Since going on our diet I have started making my own meusli, mostly because the shop bought stuff just adds in sugar for the fun of it, but also because then I can put in things that I actually like to eat. I saw this recipe on Pinterest for peanutbutter meusli and I knew that I had found my calling in life.
I don’t really stick much to recipes but this is what I put in mine:
- A packet of mixed nuts (mashed up with a big hammer cos I was too lazy to cut them up)
- A handful or so of pumpkin seeds
- A handful or so of sunflower seeds
- About half a box of oats
- A tablespoon (or 3) heaped with peanutbutter
- A couple of squeezes of honey
- A sprinkling of cinnamon
- Once cooked I added some raisins, but I also like the sourness of dried cranberries
I combined the first four ingredients, then the peanutbutter and honey in a separate bowl heated it slightly and then mixed it in with the rest of it. I sprinkled the cinnamon over it when it was spread out in the baking tray, then popped it into the oven at about 120 degrees and stirred it every 15 minutes or so until I was happy with the colour.
It is delicious! Oh my word! I’m already looking forward to my next breakfast!
Do you have any recipes for breakfast food that you adore? What smell reminds you of Winter?
Some extra pictures of the yumminess.

Oh golly, this is an awesome idea!!
I also saw something about “mocha” granola… Add in some coffee or chocolate and I’m sold. But there goes all the healthiness of it all!
Yum!
OH MY WORD! I think David would actually leave me if I don’t make this!!!!
You have to try it – it’s amazing (really it is)! All due to Pinterest – who knew you could actually do the stuff on there in real life!!
