Jeepers people.

Are you feeling like I’m feeling?  I don’t even know if I can express this in words without letting my ignorance hang out, so I won’t even try.  Which means I am going to take my focus off the country and things I can’t change.  Instead I’m going to be turning inwards, to the family I can influence and to environment I can change.

Which obviously brings me to a rather reflective Currently post.

And, as is becoming a bit of a tradition, the kids took some photographs recently which I thought I’d share.

Currently:

Doing:  There are SO many exciting things that are happening this month.  We’re heading to one of our favourite towns (Robertson) for a much needed break.  Yes, I know we went away like a couple of weeks ago, but since then it was the end of term and we juggled ballet concerts, parent meetings, crazy work stress and the eye twitching that comes with me not posting in a while.  And Seth has been having a seriously busy time at work so I’m hoping that a weekend off is exactly what we need as a family.

And besides that, I am working on a couple of cool campaigns that I hope you will enjoy.  One of which is already live, so if you love Paw Patrol as much as we do, head on over here.  And keep your eyes pealed for a few other things that you can starting hinting at for Mother’s Day.

Watching: As usual, after consuming series like crazy, we got a bit sick of it, so we mixed it up a bit:

TAKEN:  We watched two episodes and despite Rolo (from our beloved Vikings) being the main character, the actual plot and everything about the series just didn’t appeal.  It felt very Hawaii 5 0.  Same same just slightly different every week.

MISFITS:  I love me some terrible British comedy.  If you haven’t seen it, it’s about 5 people that get caught in a storm and get super powers.  We are 3 seasons in to this and enjoying it.  I do think losing Nathan at the end of Season 2 sucked a bit because even though he annoyed the crap out of me in the beginning, I grew to really like the silly poop.  His replacement is still growing on me, we’ll see how it goes.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD:  We watched this ages ago at the movies but it was on while Seth was working the other night so I ended up watching it again.  Man, whatshisface, um, Tom Hardy is not hard to look at but I can hardly ever hear what’s coming out his mouth.  I thought watching a second time would help.  It didn’t.

STORKS:  We watched this with the kids last weekend and they loved it.  And I guess it’s needless to say that they have been writing the Storks letters ever since.  All requesting a baby brother.  Sigh.

Using: It’s been a while since I tried a new perfume, so when I was sent this Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent I squealed.  And you should know, I was not paid to talk about it here.  I was just sent it in the hopes that if I do like it, I’d tell you about it.  Which is a pretty frequent thing and if you’ve been reading for any length of time you should know that I don’t just punt freebies all the time, mostly because I don’t always like what’s been sent.  Or I’d never buy it myself.

But this.  Guys, I don’t just like it.  I love it.

I’m not one for overly sweet smelling perfumes and this is the perfect balance of all the things I do love.  Plus I the glittery bottle spoke straight to my inner unicorn.  Win win.

Changing:  So, yesterday there was apparently a bomb in the building next to ours in town.

But no one told us.

So we were merrily tapping away at our computers when my business partner called me to ask me if I was in the building.  And I was like, yeah obvs, why?  And then he’s all like, well there’s been a bomb threat next door, so you should probably get out of there ASAP.  And I was like, yeah, nice one man, but that’s really not funny.  And then he was all seriously about it so we got the heck out.

Turns out it was legit.  There really was a scare in the building next to ours AND IT WASN’T THE FIRST TIME!  This is the third time in the last 2 weeks.  But this was the first time that we’d actually been told about it.  Which is quite concerning to say the least.

And we were already looking at alternative office space but I think it’s official.  We’re keen to move.  And soon.

Reading:  I’ve read a couple books in the last month or so.

TREVOR NOAH – BORN A CRIME:  This was such a great book for me because it was funny and lighthearted but it really gave me a proper look at checking my privilege.  I hate talking about race because honestly, as a white woman, I feel like anything I say will be wrong or glaringly display my privilege or ignorance that I am not even aware of.  It was really interesting to take a look into this side of things.  I want to read more book like this that will broaden my thinking.  Any recommendations?

THE MEDICI SECRET:  This was a book club book that I just finished and it was ALL ABOUT ITALY!  What a co-inky-dink.  I enjoyed reading the book but I’m not sure it’s because of the story or because I was imaging our trip there every time they mention a landmark (which is a lot).

JODI PICCOULT – KEEPING FAITH:  I picked this up in Greyton because I forgot the one I was reading at home.  I adore Jodi’s writing and how in depth she goes into her story telling but this one was weak for me.  It might be the context but it’s defs not my favourite.

I’m still in search of a mind consuming book that I just can’t put down.  I feel like I could benefit from hiding from reality for a bit now.

Adapting to:  Being alone.  I’m not good at being alone.  Especially at night.  But I’ve had to do exactly that a few times this past week and I’m going to do a whole lot more in the coming weeks.  I’m so grateful that Seth is such a hands on Dad that’s super involved, but when he’s not here, he is really missed!

Excited About:  Italy.  Yes, I’m still excited about this.  Because well.  Italy.  The only thing is the current exchange rate.  And again I sound like a total chop worrying about my overseas holiday when it’s going to be so much worse for everyone else in the country, especially the poorer folk, but flip.  It’s still a reality for me.  We’ve been saving for ages.  And now that it’s almost here (just 42 sleeps!), we’re probably not going to be able to afford as much as we’d hoped to.

I’m trying not to freak out about it, but combined with everything that’s currently happening, I just feel super dejected about it all.

What’s the silver lining that you’re holding on to right now?

Some more candid pictures from a random afternoon.

Silver lining: I’m not in control but I know who is, and it’ll be ok. Even if it’s not ok. I know it will be ok in the end. The very end.

You’re right. I need to keep thinking of the end goal here.

These pics are lovely 🙂 Have you read The War Room? – I’m currently reading and it’s so good, very spiritually focused, but I’m thoroughly enjoying it. My silver lining right now is our Easter holiday away and then two weeks thereafter, the kids are going away with my folks!!!

Oh my gosh – freedom! What have you got planned for the time your kids are away?

I haven’t read The War Room but I’ll add it to my list of books to look up – thank you!!!

Oh, Cindy do I ever feel you on this stuff. The world has just become a bit much for the moment so I’m hiding out. We’ll talk books re race in another spot.

I think hiding out is a good idea right now. Not that we don’t care, but just to protect ourselves a bit. I find that in these situations I tend to freak the flip out even though it all turns out OK.

I totally have writers’ block in the current “situation” and don’t feel that anything I say will be right! So well done for writing a post…I may get up the courage this weekend.

Yeah it’s SO hard. Things get so complicated because it’s not just about this situation, it’s about our whole history – most of which we have a skewed perspective of.

Hi Cindy, I’m an avid reader of your blog, was at PHS with Seth and also an Incompass client, 😉 we have our car insurance with you guys. Sorry to use your blog for advertising but I am a commercial real estate broker so if you are serious about moving and aren’t set already please let me know. Especially if you want to consider moving closer to the Southern Suburbs which is where I specialise, Bomb threats are definitely not cool, I’d move too!
