Every time I look at this photo I kill myself laughing. It’s just so Kyla. Not a damn chance you’re going to get a smile when she’s not feeling it. To her credit, it was a typical Sunday morning for us which means we’d stayed in bed as long as we could before getting the day started. Somehow in all of that we tend to forget to make the children breakfast. Which again, to our credit this time, they are old enough to make themselves. Yes I said it.
Nevertheless, we rocked up for Sunday Funday at Blanko with the girl from The Ring.
We were invited to come and check out Sunday Funday at Blanko, which is located at The Alphen Hotel in Constantia. This area is a favourite of ours and we regularly have birthday lunches and date nights there so we were keen to see what the Sunday Funday at Blanko is all about.
Our table was on the outside terrace area of the Blanko restaurant which was perfect because we could listen to the live jazz music and keep an eye on our kids at the same time. Winning! Before the kids were allowed to go and attack, uh, I mean, go and play in the awesome new play area, we needed to pick up the mood. And seriously, what’s a better mood enhancer than bread? Nothing – that’s what.
Once the blood sugar levels had increased and The Ringness had considerably decreased I took the kids over to the play area. Here’s how it works:
- You pay R50 per child to enter. The money is added to the bill at your table and is then donated to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital. You can be seated at Blanko or at La Belle, so either is an option.
- Your child is looked after and create an endless amount of whatever strikes their fancy. Face painting? Check. Jumping castle? Check. Sand art? Check. Making crowns and other cools things? Check. Soccer? Check. Lots of space to run around and play? Double check.
- The staff their will help your children when they want to go back to you in the restaurant.
- You get to enjoy your afternoon chatting to your spouse that you haven’t seen properly all week, or celebrate with your friends or just take in the lovely scenery and music. And it’s all in a place that isn’t in a more commonly frequented restaurant that really is only favoured for their play area. You know who I’m talking about right? There’s nothing wrong with them, but the most common thing that I hear from my fellow parents is that there should be more options of restaurants with play areas for children. And now Blanko has provided us with that. Woohoo.
Even Knox got in on the action of the sand art.
Seth and I enjoyed catching up on our week while drinking some yummy cocktails (they have a new bar area with really interesting options. Seth had burnt marshmallow in his and it was delish). Also, we’ve never ever been disappointed with the food at Blanko. Always beautifully prepared and absolutely divine.
I had the steak (I’m a steak girl, I’m trying to eat less meat but when I’m out I can’t resist), Seth had the sole and the kids heard that there was Mac n Cheese and that was it for them. There was no convincing them of anything else.
When it came to dessert we tossed up what we were going to do but eventually decided we’d each get something different and then we’d share it. Which we do quite often actually. It works really well when both desserts are amazing but sometimes we get something that we’re not always keen on.
So Seth ordered the chocolate tart which was obvs amazing. Because chocolate. I wanted to try something different and saw that there was a dessert that mentioned coffee. I basically didn’t read any of the rest of what was in it properly and ordered it. When it arrived I was sad because it was fruit, jelly and little coffee flavoured biscuits. But I was only sad until I tasted it and then I wanted to finish the whole thing! SO good.
We had such at great time at Sunday Funday at Blanko so I would really recommend going if you can. It’s such a great vibe, amazing food and the kids have a total ball. It will be running every Sunday, even through Winter.
We left with three little mice but only one of them wanted his picture taken (how we already at this phase?)

So glad you got to experience this and share it! I have been wanting to go there for the longest time and constantly get emails regarding their Sunday Funday but was very hesitant to take the plunge and attend (I have weird anxiety about new things and places).
I’m so keen to do this now! Sounds incredible!
You really should do it – we all had a ball!!
