There was a totally different post that I wanted to write for today – the just of it was fun, Summery happy goodness.
But it didn’t feel right.
I’ve been reading a lot of different media recently and it’s all been tugging right at the feels. The strongest contender in this, is one particular blog, have you ever stumbled upon “Humans Of New York“?
I’ve been following it via Bloglovin for a while now (by the way this is the BEST way that I have found to keep “up to date” with my blog reading) and I have yet to come across a post that hasn’t touched me in some way. I’m not even sure who it is behind the lens, but he (she?) is one gifted soul.
That aside, the reason I keep coming back is the way he gets people to share such personal information. Not the kind of information that you can get with one look at their Facebook profile, I’m talking about real, deep thoughts and fears. Things that make you question your own lifestyle, your own choices and the things that you fill your life with.
Like this post for instance. This is not a movie. This is not some fictitious novel. This actually happened to this guy. Just imagine that was you.
I just got me thinking that we all have stuff going on in our lives. Maybe not to that epic scale of that poor guy (for your sake I really hope not), but we have things that happen to us that affect how we see the World.
It’s what we do with with those situations and subsequent emotions that’s been bothering me.
Read this post on “A Diary Of A White Mom Raising A Black Baby” and you’ll see what I’m trying to get at. Despite what’s going on around us in our home lives, work lives or personal lives it’s not acceptable to vent it at other people.
And despite how it might sound like I am standing up on my soapbox right now, I need to remember this too.
